Our Church at a Glance
"For no one can lay any other foundation than the one we already have—Jesus Christ."—I Corinthians 3:11
We are a non-denominational church, committed to basic Christianity as it is expressed in the Bible. We are committed to basic Christian unity among all who profess Jesus Christ as Lord. We receive the Bible as God’s Word, and it is our final authority and only rule for faith and living. We want to live our lives as fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, leading others to trust in Him.
Our members accept Jesus Christ as the Living Son of God, Savior and Lord.
We believe the Bible is the revelation of God’s work and will for us. The Bible alone is our final authority and only rule of faith and practice.
We are a free church with Christ as our leader. We are not ruled by any denominational authority, but seek to live under the direction of God’s Holy Spirit. We appoint elders and deacons to help lead us toward Christ. We determine our own policies, voluntarily cooperating with other Christians in fulfilling our Lord’s Great Commission to make disciples of all people.
We practice baptism as taught and demonstrated in the Scriptures and accepted by every church today—immersion of a penitent believer in the symbol of Christ’s own death, burial and resurrection.
We share in the communion of the Lord’s Supper each week, as was the custom of the early church.
We provide Biblically based messages.
We believe all persons to be created in the image of God and need the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
We believe that God has called us to be salt and light in the world. That means many things. If you have ever had a concrete walkway that you put salt upon, the salt can eat away the hardened and concretized form that has set up over time. To be salt means to, as Jesus modeled, not only preserve the foundation he has set but to break down the established traditions of men that are based on both conventional wisdom and dead dogma. Because the word of God is both timeless and timely, we are careful in our attempts not to absolutize any creedal statements or statements of belief as the progenitors of our historical movement have cautioned against when they stated that we have “no creed but Christ.”
We believe that the truth of the Gospel is multivalent ("Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!"—Romans 11:33) and more profound than any propositional statement we could make that may only serve to reduce it to something conceived of only through our darkened understanding ("For now, we see through a glass darkly..."—I Corinthians 13:12). Jesus employed the use of pictures, stories, and the collective wisdom of his own scriptures and community of faith to expound upon and explore the riches of the kingdom of God. We want to be like Jesus!
